Saltwater FOWLR Tank

The saltwater FOWLR tank is a forty-six gallon bow front tank. I purchased it in Georgia on March 1, 2011. This was a weekend project to surprise my mom. We had to modify a piece of furniture to hold the weight of the aquarium, which took about four or five hours of work. Here are some pictures from building the stand.

Step 1
Extending back and supporting extension with beam going down, raising stand up with 2x4's. Putting molding on the bottom of the piece of furniture to cover up the 2x4's.

Step 2
Adding some trim at the bottom of the piece of furniture to help it flow better. Extending the side panel on each side, and also extending molding at the top of the piece of furniture. Cut off excess molding from back of piece of furniture. We also took handles to open the doors of so we could paint them.

Step 5
Painting the stand (the aquarium is removed before painting the top) The piece of furniture took 8 coats of paint to cover it.

I hope you enjoyed the steps that the had to go through just to get the stand ready for the aquarium. You might ask yourself did his mom like it as a surprise. Well not so much she thought it was a money pit, and I mean shes right saltwater aquariums are money pits. But the saltwater aquarium is still up and running with many in habitats. There is a list below that tells all the current ones.

Inhabitants:

Fish:
Yellow Damsel
Yellow Tailed Blue Damsel
Electric Damsel
Ocellaris Clownfish
Sooter Blenny
Diamond Goby

Inverts:
Cleaner Shrimp
Peppermint Shrimp
Fighting Conch
Blue Legged Hermits
Snails
Star Fish

I will continue in the saltwater hobby for a long time. I will continue to post things on this blog, such as updated pictures (the tank has changed tons since these pictures).

Thanks,
Blake
